Tab WalkthroughsTips and Advanced FeaturesHow To Install MovieFinder

This section contains information on the following MovieFinder features:

- Auto-Detection of poster files / DVD covers

- Submitting Auto-Detected picture files as new movies in your library

- Setting Auto-Detected picture files to be associated with existing movies

- Auto-Detection and user correction of duplicate movies

Auto-Detection of poster files / DVD covers:

At program startup, MovieFinder always checks its program folder for new picture files.

Where can I download high-resolution poster files?

If a picture file is already associated with a movie in your library, it is 'skipped.'

If picture files aren't yet associated with any movies, they are brought to your attention...

Note that new movies' names are predicted based on the filename.

...and the 'Movie Details' tab comes up:

Notice that there is a new checkbox ('Auto-Detected Movies') under the search bar. The 'Auto-Submit' button is set to be the default button (you can hit Enter on your keyboard as long as the cursor isn't in the search bar), and the button will be pulsing if using the 'Substance' or Mac OS X program appearance.

To enter this movie into your library and submit it in one easy step, hit the Enter key or click on the 'Auto-Submit' button. You will be prompted to clarify the title:

After clicking on the appropriate movie, your 'Auto-Detected' movie will be submitted:

Alternatively, if you wish to customize any part of this process, including the movie name, click on the 'Edit This Movie' button, make any changes/query IMDb, and then submit the new movie.

Note: the 'Entered into library:' date will correspond to the current month/year set on your computer. If you wish to add a group of movies and have them 'entered' in a specific month, change the date of your computer before you load MovieFinder. Don't forget to change your date back when you are done!

Also, as seen below,

the 'Add to Selections' button is normally present when viewing an existing movie.

However, when viewing an 'Auto-Detected Movie'

the button changes to 'Set to Other Movie.'

Suppose we already have 'Count of Monte Cristo, The' in our library, and suppose we even have a poster file associated with it. If we never liked this poster file, and we are updating it, we would click on the 'Set to Other Movie' button:

Now we can choose from existing movies and pick what movie we want this auto-detected file to be associated with.

Note: if the predicted title exactly matches an existing title, you will be asked if you want to replace the existing one (and you will be shown previews of the images, similar to the screenshot below).

When click on the existing 'Count of Monte Cristo, The',

...we see both pics, and get to choose which one we want to use.

If we chose to use the new pic,

...we will be asked to delete the old one (and vice versa). (Note: If you don't delete it, it will be auto-detected at next startup.) Also note that this procedure can be used for movies that don't have an associated poster file.

Don't forget you must save your changes before you exit MovieFinder or you will have to do it all over again!

Auto-Detection and user correction of duplicate movies:

While loading your library at startup, MovieFinder checks the title of each movie for duplicity. If any duplicate titles are present, you will be alerted.

You will then be asked what you want to do about it:

You must choose to delete or edit one of them. If you would like to keep both movies, change the spelling of one of the titles so you don't get this error again.
