The 'Genre Searcher' tab:

This screenshot shows [all] the movies in your personal library (demo library shown).

The genre checkboxes allow you to narrow down the movies displayed based on what genre(s) you are interested in viewing.

In this example, the 'DVD' genre is actually the 'Custom Genre' that can be set via the 'Options' tab.

This is all movies in the library after you have checked the Comedy checkbox.

It now displays all movies that contain an element of Comedy, according to IMDb or your personal input. This is not to say that they "are comedies" but rather that they "will probably make you laugh."

This is all movies in your library after you have checked the Action and Comedy checkboxes.

It now displays all movies that contain elements of both Action and Comedy, according to IMDb or your personal input.

Clicking on the 'Edit Advanced Search Criteria' allows you to narrow down displayed movies using the advanced criteria: personal rating (stars), year of production, rating, director, or a specific actor/actress. For this example we will use the actor Bruce Willis. (The above example is also set to display movies that have the personal rating of 2 stars and above. The results below are showing Bruce Willis movies regardless of stars. If you wish to follow along with the example library, do not click on personal rating stars for the advanced search.

All movies starring Bruce Willis are now displayed (Note: the Action and Comedy checkboxes were unchecked to display all titles).

You can further narrow down the current display by clicking on genre checkboxes again. In this example, we are now displaying all movies starring Bruce Willis and contain an element of Drama.

Theses radio buttons allow you to narrow down the display based on movies that are 'Checked Out' or 'In Stock.'

Clicking on the 'Movies In Stock' checkboxes removes 'Hart's War' and 'Last Man Standing' from our display criteria.

Want to know where those movies are? Let's click on the 'Movies Checked Out' checkbox...

In this example, you are asking Bruce Willis movies that are Dramas and Checked Out to be displayed.

Where are they you ask? This leads us to our next set of options:

If the 'View Details' option is selected, you can click on the title to see its Details.

When we click on 'Last Man Standing'...

We are switched to the 'Movie Details' tab. As displayed in the text area (under "Movie #410 of 802"), this movie has been 'loaned to Chris.'

For more details on checking out movies, visit the Advanced Features section of this tutorial.

Alternatively,

you could have switched to the 'Poster View' tab to get a good look at the movie poster / DVD cover,

or you could add this movie to your current selections, a.k.a. the 'Selections' tab.

For more details about movie selections, visit the Selections Tab tutorial.

This area of the 'Genre Searcher' tab allows us to narrow our displayed movies based on when they entered our library (i.e. when it was purchased).

If a friend comes over and asks what movies you've acquired since a specific month, you can use the dropdown boxes and get...

...these 84 movies (using the example library, and resetting all other fields).

There are also three buttons in the top right corner of this tab:

We've already covered the Adv. Search button. The other two buttons deal with our current selections, as displayed by the 'Selections' tab, which do exactly as their labels suggest. They reset the selections list and add the movies currently meeting this tab's criteria to your current selections.

For more details regarding movie selections, visit the Selections Tab tutorial.
